Something that I love about scripture and reading the Bible is that it is ALWAYS relevant, we are able to learn from it, apply it to our lives and grow in our relationship with Jesus! (If we are willing to let it that is)
In the passage we read (Luke 10:38-42) we see Mary taking the opportunity to spend time with Jesus and listen to His teachings while Martha chose to stress and worry about being a “good host” (Social obligation), which caused her to miss out on the time that she could have had with Jesus. Martha's priorities were out of order.
So let’s look at our lives and pose this question… What are our priorities? Something might jump up right away as an answer. Let's re-word the question. What is a distraction for us? Or What is keeping us from spending time with God? After thinking about this I'm sure most of us will need to do a bit of shuffling of our priorities, I know I do!.
No matter what our personal relationship with God should be our first priority. Im not saying that we should not stop volunteering, helping others, being a good Samaritan or loving your neighbour. Instead Isaiah 40:31 suggests that we FIRST wait on the Lord which THEN gives us strength to act! Actions are important! But they never take precedence over our relationship with Jesus.
It’s crazy how easy it is to be overcome by our busy day to day stuff. Let’s take the time this week to pray and re-focus our priorities and place them were they need to be. First Jesus, then everything else.
Hope you all have a great week, and God Bless
