Hi my name is Jim Potter. I am Lead Pastor here at Crossroads Community Church. I have been married now for over twenty years to my loving wife and partner in ministry Kristina. We have three children; Levi our eldest son, Danika our daughter, and Silas our youngest son.
We are so thankful to God for the family He has given us.
I grew up in Likely, a logging town in the Cariboo. My Dad owned a small sawmill and we lived on a hobby farm with horses, cows and almost every other farm animal you could mention. As a teen I got more experience in the sawmill and log yard than I was eager to have. After graduation from high school I became a logger and tree faller for a couple of years before going for further schooling. The experience as a logger and faller has served me well over the years and has provided supplemental income in lean times and work between ministry assignments.
Growing up on a farm, in that small town with lakes and wilderness all around, has given me a fascination for the wild outdoors and outdoor recreation. I love to go hunting, trapping and fishing, hiking, camping, horse- back riding, snowmobiling and quadding. I continue to plan some of these activities for myself and my family.
Kris and I met and married during our Bible College days, while preparing our lives for God’s service. Throughout the years in various ministry settings we have developed certain convictions about God and people and ministry. God loves people and He has good plans for our lives. Many people miss out on discovering God’s best for their lives simply because they insist on trying it “their own way” as opposed to God’s way.
We love to watch as people discover and put into practice the things God says are important. This is what the Bible refers to as being a disciple of Christ. We often suggest to people that being a Christian is both an event and a process. Yes there is a moment when we accept Christ as Lord of our lives and that is a life changing event but then begins the life long process of allowing and inviting His truths to shape every part of our lives. This is the transformation that causes us to take on a resemblance to our Father in heaven. When people tell me they have a million things wrong in their lives, I often urge people not to get overwhelmed but to deal with the one or two things they think God wants them to deal with, then God will show you what’s next. Yes Christians are to be growing in grace and in maturity but I think God is more concerned with our direction than our immediate perfection.
We love people and love to see people connect in real life relationships and begin to enjoy this journey called life together. If you are interested in being part of a community of people who love one another and who are seeking to live honest and real lives before God and one another, I invite you to come and meet our Church family. Perhaps it’s the family you have been looking for. Who knows, it might change your life.
I pray that you will find that God is at work in your life
Pastor Jim CCC.
