My name is Sherry Peterson and I am the Assistant Pastor here at Crossroads.   My family and I moved to Merritt in 2002 and we have grown very fond of this wonderful, family-oriented community.   In 1992, I met and married my amazing husband, Martin.  He promised me that life with him would not be boring.  He was right!  I can’t imagine life’s journey without him!  In fact, it was Martin’s transfer to town with Overwaitea Foods that brought us to Merritt.

 

        Martin, is Assistant Produce Manager at Coopers Foods, but his real passion is firefighting and family!  He has been with the Merritt Fire Rescue Department for six years and loving it.  We have two adventurous teenage boys, Brian (15) and Michael (13) who enjoy motocross and playing team sports...and eating just for fun! Speaking of fun, I just love baking scrumptious treats for my three fellas.  And I know they love eating it!  I also enjoy singing along to great music, dancing when no one is watching, reading a good book or kicking back with my family at some of the beautiful campsites around Merritt.  And yes, I have a weakness for chocolate and yummy Caramel Macchiatos enjoyed with friends.   We have made so many great friends over coffee and a smile.  When we first arrived in town, our boys were small and we had no immediate family in town.  Our Crossroads family has been an authentic source of encouragement and spiritual support.  We are very blessed to be part of this family of faith!  

 

      Ever since I can remember, I have loved the church and assisting pastors and leaders has been my call from an early age.  I grew up in a Lutheran church and later became a Senior Soldier in the Salvation Army.  As my quest to know God fully continued, I found myself serving as a deaconess in a tiny Pentecostal church in Sparwood, BC.  That is where God ruined me for mediocre, auto-pilot living forever!   I was filled with the Holy Spirit and became passionate to know God and make Him known!   Ever since then, I simply love to see people discover the life changing truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ and to help them develop the kind of intimate relationship with God that brings life and joy to every aspect of their lives.  Let’s face it, life is not always simple; it is usually messy and sometimes it is downright painful.   We need the clarity and hope that God’s Word brings.  When people become Holy Spirit led and begin to apply biblical principles to their lives they find balance and wholeness in their relationships, their marriages, their families, their finances - everything! That is how we move from existing to really being ALIVE!   We are a work in progress and live each day expecting God to take us even deeper into this real life He has for us.

 

      Martin and I are sold out for seeing whole families come to Christ and see people walking in freedom and hope.  In a world where everything around us is becoming more relative and unstable, we count on the ROCK of our salvation.  Jesus is the ONE who never changes and is always faithful – no matter what life brings our way!  And we want nothing more than to be examples to our children of how to navigate this life.  We want them to have a legacy of hope and faith that carries on for generations to come!
